YOUTH THEATRE

This isn't just about getting up on stage and showing off!!  It's about rewarding you with something that will carry you for the rest of your life.  There are 3 areas to a theatre - the stage of course, this builds confidence so when you come to that first interview you'll be ready.  Backstage - here you'll learn vocational and practical skills , carpentry, electrics and how to produce the effect of magic from very little.  Front of house - this is for those who want to run their own company - managing the venue, balancing the books and most important of all *****PROMOTION******

So, we're not just looking for actors.  We're after creating a theatre.  Run by you.  We'll help you set it up, teach you a few tricks of the trade and hopefully inspire a few of you.

Rob Salmon, the Outreach Director of Dukes Theatre, Lancaster will be hosting the first free workshops.  These will be held at the Community Centre throughout November but to attend one you must attend all obviously starting with the first one.  Following these we will start 4 weeks of technical workshops  to include creating sound effects, lighting, filming and editing.  Following on with the skills to see you through pulling the whole thing off with style and efficiency - and a bang!  Problem being that it cost a lot of money and nobody came  - marketing and accountancy - the most important part of staging a production.  Phew!!   And after all of this you'll be let loose to create and stage your own production in the town hall - or possibly even at Dukes.

So try these out  -  starting Wednesday 8 November ...

Workshop 1 - 8 November

Come and Have a Go if you think your hard enough!

It’s get your own back time! In this workshop you can beat the living daylights out of your best mate, inflict misery and suffering on a colleague or even kill a relative! Of course it’s all fake, at least it better be! Expect sore hands, one or two bruises, and a thrilling night out at the theatre. Learn basic unarmed combat skills to impress your friends and scare your enemies!

Workshop 2 - 15 November

I’ve had a wonderful evening! But this wasn’t it!

What makes a good idea for a play? How do you create an effective narrative? Will my play ever be produced if I’ve asked for a chorus of 28 dancing Nuns? This workshop is designed to explore the art of playmaking for a 21st Century audience. If you’ve ever thought I could do better or if you are full of original ideas then come along. Pens and Paper will be provided, but you’ll need to bring a brain, some bright ideas and maybe some biscuits?

Workshop 3 - 22 November

Take that look off your face!

The Actor goes on an internal journey… bringing the audience into the character's story. The Performer goes on an external journey… taking the character's story out to the audience. By the end of this workshop you will have an understanding of what it is that excites and motivates you to get on stage, and where you can improve to become a better Actor or Performer!  Whatever you may be? With a focus on Commedia and Mask Work.

Workshop 4 - 29 November

Oh no, it’s Impro! Guerilla Theatre! Nerve or Nonsense

That’s Guerrilla not Gorilla – What’s the difference? One is a revolutionary, the other has big nostrils. This workshop will explore Improvisation techniques. What do you need to make good Impro? Nerves of steel or just pants of iron? A sense of fun or just a love of the ridiculous? Come and find out! Why do Gorillas have big nostrils? Because they’ve got big fingers!
